Van Hollen Announces DOT Grant for Rockville’s Complete Streets Project
Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will provide all of the $827,200 requested by the City of Rockville for its Complete Streets Project. These funds will improve pedestrian crossing locations on public roadways near the Twinbrook Metro station and provide greater pedestrian and bicycle access to the Rockville Metro station. This will boost transportation efficiency, increase pedestrian and motorist safety, and provide more timely access to jobs and services.
“Rockville serves as the County seat, has become a regional entertainment and retail destination, and is surrounded by many large federal facilities – all of which contribute to a swell in daytime traffic that is a challenge for a city of its size,” said Congressman Van Hollen. “Safe and well-connected pedestrian transportation networks improve livability, safety, and efficiency, and I am very pleased that these funds will directly benefit the residents, businesses, and visitors of Rockville and Montgomery County.”
