Van Hollen Statement on Senate Leaders’ Commitment to Act on DISCLOSE
Washington,
Jun 22, 2010 -
Today, Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement after Senate Leaders confirmed their commitment to taking up and passing the bi-partisan DISCLOSE Act:
“Today’s letter from Majority Leader Reid and Senator Schumer makes clear that the Senate is committed to taking up and passing the DISCLOSE Act in short order, and I urge my colleagues in the House to take the first step and pass the measure this week.
“The DISCLOSE Act will provide the most transparency and disclosure of political expenditures in the history of our elections. This will help ensure that the American people know who is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to influence their vote and prevent a takeover of our democracy by powerful special interests. If we do not pass the DISCLOSE Act, these special interests will be able to operate in the shadows and the voters will be left in the dark.”
