Today Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) issued the following statement urging President Obama to support legislation being drafted to address the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Citizens United case:

“In advance of tomorrow’s State of the Union address, I urge President Obama to support legislation Senator Schumer, myself, and others will introduce shortly to blunt the impact of the radical Supreme Court ruling issued in the Citizens United case.  The Court’s ruling opens the floodgates to millions of dollars from big corporations, including those controlled by foreign interests that do not put America first.  We cannot allow foreign interests to spend millions of dollars to influence our nation’s elections in ways that further their agendas at the expense of our citizens.  Their vast resources threaten to drown out the voices of individuals and further erode peoples’ trust in our political process.”
