Today Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) issued the following statement on the release of the new Recovery Act Reports. To date, Recovery Act funds have created or saved 6,748 direct jobs in Maryland:

“As we continue to work to get our nation’s economy back on track after the worst financial crisis in a generation, we now know the Recovery Act has created or saved 6,748 jobs in Maryland and one million nationally.  Coupled with yesterday’s announcement that the GDP increased for the first time this year and had the largest increase in two years, it is clear our economy is making important progress.

“But with many Americans unemployed and families still suffering, our work is not over.  The House passed legislation this week to invest in small businesses and help them create jobs.  We are also closer than ever to passing health insurance reform that will cut costs and finally make health care affordable for American families. Congress also recently voted to extend unemployment, ensuring middle class families can get through this crisis.  Protecting the middle class and rebuilding our economy is our top priority.”
