Van Hollen Statement on the Death of
Senator Gwendolyn Britt

United States Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) today released the following statement:

“Senator Gwendolyn Britt’s death is a tragic loss for our community and our state.  She dedicated her life to public service and to changing our community so that all Americans would be able to experience true freedom, justice, and equal opportunity.  It was her courage and steadfast resolve that helped bring about integration at Glen Echo Park.

As we mourn her loss, we should recommit ourselves to the causes she championed. We can best pay tribute to this remarkable woman by speaking out boldly against inequality and oppression and refusing to accept or ignore it.  I extend my deepest sympathies to the members of Senator Britt’s family.  I hope that they can find solace in knowing that the entire community is grieving the loss of this courageous woman.”
