United States Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) today released the following statement on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s 2007 State of the Bay Report.
“The State of the Bay report released today confirms what we already know and what previous reports have indicated. The Chesapeake Bay and its supporting tributaries are fighting for survival. It is critical that we act now to curtail years of sediment pollution. We were able to include $504 million dollars in the House version of the Farm bill. This record funding level represents a major new chapter in the Chesapeake Bay clean-up effort, and is essential in providing Chesapeake Bay-region farmers with critical funds to support their conservation efforts and help clean up the Bay. I call on the Senate to move quickly to pass a Farm Bill with the same level of funding."
