Congressman Chris Van Hollen today announced that the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) 2008 spending bill includes funding he requested for key Montgomery County transportation projects to help the community manage transportation issues related to the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission's recommendations.
"It is important to make sure our community has the resources necessary to meet the challenges, demands, and opportunities that will arise from the decision to move some of the services from Walter Reed Army Medical Center to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda," said Congressman Van Hollen. "These funds will help us address the transportation challenges that will arise from this move."
The spending bill includes $1 million to ensure that Montgomery County has the proper infrastructure in place to handle the new jobs that will soon be heading to our community. The funding will be used to improve safety, operations, and access to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda by making adjustments to the already congested Maryland Route 355.
The spending bill passed the full House Appropriations Committee. The bill now moves to the House floor for a vote.
