Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) honored the 2007 graduates and appointees of the U.S. Service Academies from Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District during a ceremony yesterday at the U.S. Capitol.
All service academy applicants must receive a nomination, either from a Member of Congress, a U.S. Senator or the Vice President or President, in order to obtain an academy appointment. The nominated students must pass a physical examination, have a distinguished academic background, and demonstrate strong leadership skills. They must also meet other standards set by the individual academies.
