Washington, D.C. - The Democratic Policy and Steering Committee has appointed Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) to the House Committee on Ways and Means, which has jurisdiction over all tax policy, Social Security, Medicare, and trade issues.
“I am pleased and honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Ways and Means Committee,” said Van Hollen. “I appreciate the confidence of Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi and my colleagues on the Steering Committee. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I will work to ensure that we have tax system that is fair and equitable for all Americans.”
As a member of the Committee, Van Hollen will be at the forefront of many issues critical to Maryland and our nation, particularly improving Medicare, and reforming taxes and trade policy.
“Congressman Chris Van Hollen has a keen intellect and great political skills that will make him a great member of the Ways and Means Committee,” said incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
