Washington, D.C. - Congressman Chris Van Hollen today announced the departure of his Chief of Staff, Kay Casstevens.
“Kay Casstevens has been an exceptional leader for our office and has done a phenomenal job as Chief of Staff. We will miss her talent, experience, and political savvy,” Van Hollen said. “Kay has an extensive knowledge of the policy issues, the politics, and the procedures of the Congress.”
Casstevens is relocating temporarily to her native Texas to care for her ailing parents. She said that it has been a privilege to serve as Van Hollen’s Chief of Staff for the past two-and-a-half-years.
“It’s been a wonderful experience,” Casstevens said. “I had an opportunity work with people who are here because they believe in the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party and want to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Van Hollen said that Casstevens will be replaced by Karen Robb, who has served as Deputy Assistant to President Clinton in the Office of Legislative Affairs, Chief of Staff to Senator John Edwards, and as Democratic Staff Director for the Senate Judiciary Committee under Senator Joe Biden (D-DE).
“Karen Robb is a seasoned political insider who brings a wealth of public policy and management experience to her new position,” Van Hollen said. “Her expertise will be invaluable to our office as we work on the issues that affect Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District and our nation.”
Robb, who has also served as Chief Counsel to former Senator Dennis DeConcini, said she is looking forward to her new position.
“I am privileged to have this new challenge,” Robb said. “I will benefit enormously from the strong pattern of leadership established by Kay.”|
Robb graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and received a J.D from the Duquesne University School of Law.
