Washington, D.C. - United States Representative Chris Van Hollen joined other House Democrats and Americans from across the country today in unveiling the New Partnership for America’s Future. This new agenda was developed by House Democrats to address the needs of today’s middle class families, including good jobs, affordable health care and safe communities. Van Hollen was joined at the event by Craig Rice of Germantown who spoke about the budget deficit and government accountability. Rice has been working on these issues in Montgomery County.
"Today, Mr. Rice and Mr. McAllister described the unmet needs of our community and our nation,” said Van Hollen. “They cited the values we all share: economic prosperity for all, national security, safe communities, educational opportunity, a fair health policy, and accountability to the American people. The New Partnership for America’s Future is based on these core values and it is our pledge to the American people to honor those values.”
“This plan will help the 8,312 of veterans in Maryland who are waiting for an end to the unfair Disabled Veterans’ Tax, and the thousands of residents of Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District who are struggling with the cost of health care,” Van Hollen said. “The average household income in Maryland has dropped by $2,933 over the past four years while the cost of health insurance has increased by $1,240 – a 64% increase.”
