Washington, D.C. - United States Representative Chris Van Hollen announced today the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs’ (OJP) decision to award Montgomery County $1.3 million dollars under the Fiscal Year 2004 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP).
SCAAP provides federal payments to state and local governments to defray costs associated with the incarceration of undocumented criminal aliens with at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law.
“I am pleased that Montgomery County is receiving this grant,” Van Hollen said. “It is important that we provide law enforcement officials with the resources they need to keep our communities safe.”
SCAAP, which was originally authorized in the 1994 Crime Act, is administered by the Office of Justice Programs’ (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance. For additional information about today’s grants, please visit
