Washington, D.C. - United States Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Vice Chair of the Congressional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, today released the following statement:
“I want to congratulate County Executive Duncan, Director Caldwell and the rest of this forward-looking purchasing group for this exciting announcement today. In stark contrast to the current total lack of federal leadership on environmental and renewable energy issues, Montgomery County and Prince George’s Counties are now leading the way with the single largest wind purchase by any municipality in the nation. This bold initiative will reap enormous benefits to the residents of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties – by cleaning the air, reducing street-level smog, bolstering the region’s emerging renewable energy industry and helping to bring down the cost of wind power so that consumers will have a broader range of green, price-competitive options to conventionally sourced electricity.”
During his service in the Maryland State Senate, Representative Van Hollen authored the successful “Clean Energy Incentive Act,” which, among other things, provides tax incentives to produce clean energy.
