Washington, D.C. - “On Monday we will pause to remember the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the leader who helped transform the social and political landscape of our country. Dr. King’s work helped secure justice and equality for all Americans. This year, I hope that we take time to evaluate the progress we have made and the work that still needs to be done toward making his dream a reality.
“Dr. King was a great American hero because his work revolved around serving others. We can honor him with service of our own. We must work to eliminate poverty, injustice, and ignorance. We should strive to end racial discrimination and intimidation through racial profiling and voter suppression, and to end racial disparities in health care and education.”
“Dr. King’s extraordinary leadership should be a model for today’s leaders. As the 109th Congress begins, I hope that we can work together in the spirit of bipartisanship to enact policies that will make life better for all Americans.”
