Rep. Chris Van Hollen (MD-8) was named Assistant to the Speaker of the House in December of 2008, taking on expanded responsibilities on top of his role as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In his new role as Assistant to the Speaker, Rep. Van Hollen works closely with the House Democratic Leadership and the White House to formulate policy, legislative strategy, and message. Additionally, Rep. Van Hollen’s Assistant to the Speaker staff provides support to the newest Democratic members to ensure they are implementing best practices and utilizing all of the resources at their disposal to best serve their constituents.
